So far in my first semester of ceramics, I was able to learn many new tools that I did not know before, such as coil building and Slab Building with Slump Mold & Sgraffito. I enjoyed being able to explore different methods of building with the clay and finding out what works best for me. While learning ceramics, I was able to make things with my own creativity and make some ofmy own choice projects which I enjoyed very much, especially when I could spend time glazzing it.
This second semester in ceramics, I hope to get better at coil building so I am able to make bowls. I want to be able to make my set of four bowls with coil building becuase so far I have only used coils to make things you can see the coils in, not something you smooth out, like a bowl. I could work on improving my skills in relief carving because I struggled a lot with that first semester of ceramics. When I tried to do the relief carving, the clay was way too heavy, so I was unable to have it go the way I wanted it to. The skills and products that I need to gain in ceramics semester two are having better patience when working with the clay and trying to build what I want, even if it has a hard difficulty. Also, to try and use the tools I don't use as often, so I can try to break out of my ceramics comfort zone.
